ABOUT GEORGE HURST
George was born in Seattle but grew up in the suburbs of New York City on Long Island. His family returned to Seattle and George graduated from Ballard High School. He continued his education at the University of Washington and graduated with a BA degree in history. He then earned an MA in American History from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
George has been married to his wife, Pam, for over 48 years, and has lived together in Lynnwood for over 30 years. Their four wonderful children all graduated from Lynnwood High School. Pam and George enjoy time with family, especially with their four grandchildren. They attend Sonrise Christian Center where they had served as drama ministry leaders for ten years.
George and Pam share a passion for serving their community. Pam is a Realtor, a member of the Lynnwood Chamber, serves on the Lynnwood Human Services Commission, and is a legislative lead for the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance. In 2021, George and Pam were nominated for the Snohomish County Human Rights Commission’s Transformational Leadership Award because they assisted displaced low-income tenants during the demolition of the Whispering Pines apartment complex. They both are regular attendees of the Veteran’s Heroes Café in Lynnwood.
George has twice been elected Council President by his fellow Council Members. He is a graduate of the Leadership Snohomish County Signature Program. The Association of Washington Cities has recognized his commitment to education and training on city matters by awarding him its Certificate of Municipal Leadership.
